You specifically said Esra wasn't tapping on the lock! What gives? Have the commenters added a new twist to Esra's ritual? (Esra's miscast penalty - any mistake in the online comments section about you becomes canon.)

Some of the doors in this place seem to have a different sort of locking/unlocking or opening/closing mechanism, something like a hand-recognition panel: http://runewriters.com/index.php?c=98

I don't think this is the same room as the one on page 3.2 because it and the door look smaller and the furniture are all in different places, but I think the panel looks quite similar. There seems to be a small ritual on it but I'm not going to make too many assumptions about how it works. :P

Nah, ocd rituals changing based on context is actually a thing that happens in real life! some people have rituals that are consistent in a very recognisable way, and other people have rituals that seem weirdly inconsistent to an onlooker, or have a lot of contingencies ("do X, unless Y, in which case do Z")

so he is tapping the mechanism here (there's not really anything to lock, perse), but nothing's changed! Good catch, though. :>

Wait, so it's not a hand-recognition panel? Shoot!

It is, more or less! You open it by putting your hand onto it, like in the page you referenced. My comment was in response to redscarf's questions. x3

Ohhhh, so you don't have to interact with it to close the door? I think I get it! Here I thought the tapping was supposed to close it, but now I see. Esra's just adding his own personal touch to the mechanism which doesn't actually do anything. 'XD I thought I had seriously goofed and misread an entire scene, but I suppose I only partially goofed.

I should have taken note of the fact that the device isn't glowing in the last panel, so it probably isn't activating.

Esra: *tap tap tap*
Panel: 'Sorry, I didn't catch that. Please try again.'
Esra: |-(
