Possibilities:

1. It just falls to the ground and Necropony doesn't understand just keeps eating it and dropping it through his lack of a stomach and everyone thinks this is very cute and eventually someone swipes the food away as it falls and Necropony fails to notice and everything is fine!! He totally ate it okay!!

2. Jonan magicks this random organic material (the food) to decompose instantly and uses it to fortify Necropony's stability (???) and it therefore does actually help sustain him. Jonan obviously can't do this while he can't cast though, so maybe this is just an excerpt out of time...

Other thought: like number 2, but Jonan has set up some sort of perpetual spell to maintain this. I'm sure it would have taken a lot of effort to manage, and might require refreshing semi-frequently, but we all know what a soft spot Jonan has for necropony.
